ABOUT CAMBRIDGE NICHOLSON INSTITUTE

We at CNI Techers Training Institute,Kottayam provide Quality Education to our students with a systematic approach.The CNI offers Diploma in Elementry Education (D.El.Ed), affiliated to General Education Department of Kerala aims to develop professionals for primary education within a broad framework of education in the millennium. The course will enable pre-service teachers to acquire knowledge, develop competencies and practice skills to impart education to children at primary level(I to VII).
The C.N.I.T.T.I.,Kottayam ,the first teacher training institute in Kerala ,founded by the Church Missionary Society of England, plays a significant and lead role in the teacher training processes in this state for the last 155 years. Located amidst natural splendor, the institution infuses great academic ambience. This institution is pleased to have achieved positive in effectively implementing the newly introduced curriculum, Diploma in Elementry Education (D.El.Ed), in the last academic year.
We have actively participated in the Teachers training programmes conducted by SCERT in connection with the new curriculum and succeeded in applying the education programmes as per their direction. The student’s curricular activities were evaluated comprehensively and continuously as a part of the teacher – training programme and at the same time conducted the terminal written examinations. In the last year, we have been achieved good academic records by a high pass out rate with excellent marks. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a good team of teaching staff comprising of 4 trained postgraduates with much school experience.
STUDENTS PARLIAMENT
It is a democratic body of the students and it plays a very crucial role for the well being of the students as well as the institution. It calls for a parliament at least once in a month and appoints the new cabinet for the next month to ensure the equal participation of every student.
ACADEMIC FACILITIES
The CNI provides academic facilities that aid effective teaching and learning in the institute. Today the institute boasts of a laboratory block with full fledged laboratories of IT, Psychology and Educational Technology. The free use of basic educational technologies such as Internet ,Laptops and LCD Projectors etc made teaching learning at the institute much more relaxing , fun and effective for teachers and students elite. The Institute has a small but fast growing and regularly updated library, which is used, extensively by the students and teachers. The Library currently has a total collection of 5413 volumes including references, journals and government documents. The institute also has workshop facilities for vocational skills such as carpentry, art and crafts, book binding etc which students use mainly for making teaching aids. We also have a Science Laboratory that is increasingly used to supplement and aid teaching.
PRACTICE TEACHING
Practice Teaching is conducted for the teacher trainees in the third and fourth Semesters and is done for 90 days at 10 Government /Aided primary schools, all within 3 km. distance from the Institute. During the period the trainees are expected to take part in all the activities in their practice schools.
COMMUNITY LIVING CAMP
Community Living Camp(CLC) a part of the D.El.Ed , course conducted at the Institute. It is a residential camp for a period of 15 days.CLC aims at fostering qualities like discipline, corporative living, social responsibility, and fellow feeling among student –teachers. It also help in promoting dignity of labor , social responsibility etc. It is a memorable experience for all students, memories of which they cherish for ever.
UNIFORM
The trainees wear uniforms on all working days and all the functions of the institute
DURATION AND INTAKE
The D.El.Ed course shall be of duration of 2 academic years (Four semesters) and shall be a unit of 22 students for intake each year.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
Candidates with at least 50% marks in the Higher Secondary Examination(+2), or it’s equivalent , are eligible for admission.
FEES
The tuition fees and other fees shall be charged at rates as prescribed by the Department of General Education, Government of Kerala.
Tution Fees : Rs 50/-
Special Fees : Rs 20/-
HOSTEL FACILITIES
Hostel Facilities for both men and women are available at walk able distance from the Institute
